Forget noisy venues and stressful party planning - this is an intimate, gentle, and heart-meltingly cute party experience designed for children aged 6-10 (although all ages are welcome!).

At the heart of this experience are two real, live tenrecs—adorable baby hedgehog-lookalikes from Madagascar that children can hold, admire, and learn about. Combined with a vintage tea party setup and calming atmosphere, it’s a birthday like no other.

We know how overwhelming children’s parties can feel - expensive venues, loud music, sugar-fuelled chaos...it’s a lot.

Tenrec Tea Parties are the opposite. They offer a peaceful, imaginative experience where children can connect with nature, cuddle cute animals, and enjoy a beautifully styled tea party with their closest friends.

🐾 It’s magical and different. Not everyone gets to say they spent their birthday with a tenrec!

🏡 It comes to you. We bring everything and set it up right in your home or garden—no driving, no hiring venues, no hassle.

Our Tenrec Tea Parties are £175, last around one hour (based on six guests), and include the following…

🐾 Our two sweet-natured tenrecs (called Tilly and Flower) will be the stars of the party, with children having the chance to gently handle them…and discover what makes these rare little animals from Madagascar so fascinating and loveable.

Our experienced handlers will supervise the children interacting with the tenrecs sat on a rug on the floor (provided), making sure that all guests get one-on-one time with them.

🍰 Vintage-style disposable tableware is provided, including pretty floral paper plates, matching cups, napkins and tablecloth. Use of our three-tier ceramic cake stand is also included.

We’ll also provide a rug for the floor, and soft cushions and blankets for a cosy, relaxed picnic feel. We also have a folding table and matching tablecloth that can be used for food (and a cake, if you plan to have one).

🦋 Butterfly-themed glitter tattoos. While some of the guests are handling the tenrecs, the other children can have a temporary glitter tattoo of their choice applied (for a touch of extra magic!).

  • No! We can adapt our Tenrec Tea Parties for any occasion, and for any age.

  • The party itself lasts around an hour, with 30 minutes before and after required for setting up/packing away.

  • The main thing not included is catering. You’ll need to buy (or make!) your own party food, drinks, and supply any cakes/cupcakes. We also don’t include any additional decor such as banners, balloons etc. We do supply a butterfly garland that can be hung up.

  • We’ve designed this experience to be intimate, cosy, and with a relaxed feel. We recommend no more than 6 children in total. If you want to discuss other options, send us an email to hey@scalysafari.co and we’ll see what we can do!

  • It’s entirely up to you. We created our Tenrec Tea Parties for smaller gatherings, so hiring a venue isn’t necessary. If you’d prefer to book a venue, that’s fine too.

  • Weather-permitting…absolutely! If you have the space in your garden, we can make it happen. Please note that tenrecs are temperature-sensitive, so if we feel it’s a bit too chilly (or hot) on the day, we may have to move the party indoors.

    Please note: clear access to hot running water and soap is essential.

  • Absolutely! If it’s in the cooler months, though, the party will need to be held indoors (the tenrecs are temperature-sensitive, and need to be kept warm).

  • Our Tenrec Tea Parties can be adapted to suit any age, but we created it with 6-10 year olds in mind.

  • As we always say: every animal can bite if it wants to. Our tenrecs are our own personal pets, and are extremely well-handled. It is highly unlikely that they will bite, especially as all handling will take place under our direct supervision. We can’t, however, guarantee 100% that they won’t bite.

  • Pretty much anywhere! We’re based in North Wales, but regularly cover the whole of the North West as well. There may be a surcharge for fuel costs for travelling further afield.
